Challenging Behaviour

This course trains you in how to cope with people with learning disabilities and those who may demonstrate extreme behaviour, which is often referred to as challenging behaviour. This may include tantrums, hitting or kicking other people, throwing things or hurting themselves.

Basic Food Hygiene

This course provides a basic awareness of food hygiene and includes: legislation and policy on food handling; causes of food poisoning; cross contamination; personal hygiene; dress codes; cleaning and temperature control; pests.  Accredited courses available.

People Handling Training

This half-day course provides a theoretical awareness of the principles of safe moving and handling. It will be of particular interest to residential and domiciliary care workers including those that work with older people who are living in their own home or in care homes.  Please ask if more practical training is required.

Dementia Care

According to the international classification of diseases, Dementia is a syndrome caused by disease of the brain, usually of a chronic or progressive nature in which there is a degeneration of brain function including memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, language and judgement.  This course offers training in understanding and caring for people with Dementia.

Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults

This new course will enable the Care Worker to explore the legislation, policy and procedures that relate to the safeguarding of vulnerable people. It will be of particular interest to residential and domiciliary care workers including: carers, supervisors, trainers and managers working with older people; vulnerable adults and service users living in their own homes.

Medication Awareness

This newly revised course provides the underpinning knowledge required for residential and domiciliary care workers to: (1) support service users who are self-medicating; and (2) administer medication within their care setting (referred to as level 1 and level 2 training in the CQC Guidance to Inspectors).

Epilepsy Awareness

This course promotes a person-centred approach towards the management of seizures and is based on advice received from the National Society for Epilepsy.  Specialist Epilepsy courses also available, dealing with more specific topics within Epilepsy.

Infection Control

This course introduces the residential and domiciliary care worker to the principles of infection control. The content includes: bacteria and viruses; modes of spread; people at risk; standard precautions, hand hygiene, dress code; disposal of waste; blood spillages; collecting and handling specimens; disinfection and sterilization.

Emergency First Aid Awareness

The Health and Safety Executive define the appointed person as an individual who can take charge when someone is injured or ill, including calling an ambulance if required; and look after the first aid equipment.  Learn the basics of Emergency First Aid Awareness.  Accredited courses available.

Communications and Record Keeping

This training course provides an awareness of the principles of good communication and record keeping It will be of particular interest to residential and domiciliary care workers including: carers, supervisors, and managers working with older people; or vulnerable adults, in their own home or in care homes.  Individual consultations around care planning can also be arranged.

Fire Awareness

This course provides participants with a greater awareness and understanding of the threat posed by fire, and is designed to increase confidence in the actions to be taken in the event of a fire occurring.
